Prospecting for a good carrier is like trying to strike it rich during the California Gold Rush. Every mining camp claimed to have heavily-saturated mines, cutting-edge mining methods, and the most active saloons. Despite these claims, many forty-niners left the Gold Rush poorer than when they arrived. Still, there were many who made millions. Successful miners followed three basic criteria for staking claims.
